A Model to improve Adaptability by traversing the Adaptive Zone
Is there a way where companies are able to thrive in turbulent times?
Unquestionably, there are many successful companies doing extremely well today; at the same time, some successful companies have crumbled and failed over time. Is there really sustainable competitive advantage, popularly coined by Michael Porter, or as what Rita McGrath mentioned, only transient advantage is possible especially in today’s era? The next question then leads us to ponder, “Then how companies can create many transient advantages in a short period of time, and especially in turbulent times?” “What are the key activities companies should engage on a regular basis?”
It is, undoubtedly, not overstating the fact that companies today are constantly challenged by the disruptions brought along by their competitions or even new entrants in their industries. With the proliferation of technologies, coupled with shrinking costs of possessing greater computing power, newer or even new business models were created in an accelerated pace “never-seen-before”. As the world became more Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (“VUCA”) in the previous era, the evolution of industry 4.0 has caused the world to be more VUCA than before.
